Hong Kong Central Subway, Lantau Airport Railway
This contract involved the construction of 265m of pedestrian cut-and-cover tunnels in central Hong Kong . Part of the tunnel was constructed by cut and cover methods under Pedder Street and Connaught Road Central. Twin tunnels were also excavated under Exchange Square . A major breakthrough was also required into Central Station. Services included the design and design liaison support for the 265m long cut-and-cover tunnel. Atkins undertook the detailed geotechnical appraisal, computer modelling and detailed structural design of the proposed subway, and the instrumentation monitoring of the existing buildings and utilities design.

Admiralty to Pacific Place Pedestrian Subway
This subway links the basement shopping arcade at Pacific Place directly to the Admiralty MTR Station at concourse level. It is approximately 120m long with a clear subway width of 7.1m. To avoid traffic disturbance during construction, the section under Queensway was built as a driven tunnel. The rest of the subway was constructed by the cut and cover method. Atkins carried out the design and construction supervision of this pedestrian subway and station entrance on behalf of both the Mass Transit Railway Corporation and the developer, Kornhill Developments Limited.
