KCRC Lightning & Earthing Investigation
Following a night of severe storms in Hong Kong that severely affected KCRC's West Rail signalling system, Atkins was appointed to support KCRC engineers to investigate the incidents occurring on the night of the storms, and other similar disturbances that have occurred on the line's signalling system, notably to axle counter equipment, since its opening in late 2003 as a result of lightning or other railway factors. Atkins recommendations arising from the engineering study were implemented progressively over a period of 6 months by KCRC's maintenance engineers and technicians, and had demonstrated considerable improvement in the system reliability.
