RAILWAY STATION AND SUBWAY STRUCTURES
     

Atkins has extensive experience in design of Metro Station in Hong Kong and Dubai . The stations include the Central Station of Shatin to Central Link, the Al Rigga Station of Red Line Metro, Saeediya Station and Salah Al Din Station in Dubai. All these stations are underground station. Good coordination with architect, E&M and other disciplines is prime important to these railway projects.

INSTITUTION STRUCTURES (BAPTIST HOSPITAL)
     

Atkins has working experience with the Local Hospital Parties ¡V The Hong Kong Baptist Hospital (HKBH). The working experience includes A&A works of additional floors on top of occupied building/structures, modification & addition of new lift opening inside occupied structure; built up an new extension block in front of hospital, renovation works for old & new Operation Theatre, etc.

Atkins was appointed by Hong Kong Baptist Hospital to provide all-in consultancy services to design and supervise such kind of A&A and Renovation works. Atkins was acting as the Lead Consultant to provide project management, planning and coordination amongst parties to comply different user requirement, to provide structural design and supervision of construction works, etc.

CLP SUBSTATION STUCTURES   Top
     

Atkins has extensive experience on design and site supervision for substation structures of China and Light Power (CLP). The design works include foundation, excavation and lateral support, site formation, superstructure and cladding work. These designs are required to be submitted to statutory department for approval. In addition, site supervisions are provided to ensure the quality of works on housekeeping, environmental, safety, and progress of work.

NOISE MITIGATION MEASURES    
     
Atkins has extensive experience on design of noise barrier along East Rail. To mitigate railway noise impact to the noise sensitivity receivers along existing East Rail, various types of vertical noise barriers are introduced as the mitigation measures. Up to now, about 1km long noise barriers have been constructed under our supervision. The noise barriers are composing of vertical steel truss / UC supporting by piled foundation or strip footing. Acoustic aluminum panels filled with fabric wool are installed between the steel posts.

TEMPORARY WORK DESIGN   Top
     
Atkins has extensive experience in design of temporary works in Hong Kong such as Excavation and Lateral Support (ELS) works for basement or pile cap construction, temporary soil nailed and rock slopes for retaining wall construction, falsework and formwork or steelworks for bridge construction. We offer tailor-made, cost-effective and safe temporary work solutions to our client. We also have extensive experience in obtaining approval from government departments such as Buildings Department (BD) and Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO), KCRC and MTRC.

INDEPENDENT CHECKING ENGINEER    
     
Atkins has extensive experience on independent checking engineer for permanent works and temporary works for various types of civil, geotechnical and structural works. The permanent works include alternative design for foundation, retaining wall and some minor construction details to suit the actual site condition and to shorten the overall construction programme. The temporary works include falseworks, formworks, ELS works and some temporary works during the construction stage. Sometimes, site certificates will be issued after the inspection by our experienced engineer. We certify the temporary works as constructed have complied with the current code of practice and are structurally safe.

DEMOLITIONS   Top
     
Atkins also provides design and site supervision services for demolition works. Our experience includes the recently completed projects such as the demolition of the horse ramp structure, Old Equine Hospital and the Racing Laboratory of the Hong Kong Jockey Club in Shatin. These services covered the preliminary design, detailed design, BD approval processes, tendering and full time site supervision of the works. Moreover, we are currently the designer of the demolition work for the Atrium Link structure of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Expansion project, which involves the demolition of a 90m span link structure from the old wing to the new wing.
